3 Things You Should Know About Stubborn Belly Fat
We need to talk about three things you should know about stubborn belly fat.
I am talking about that increase in belly fat that you may have experienced in your late 30’s to mid 40’s.
Hello perimenopause, there you are!
It feels different, it can be uncomfortable, and it can feel like it won’t go anywhere.
All those things you used to do to try to slim down before swimsuit season aren’t cutting it anymore. The fat hangs differently too and shows up in different ways (at least mine does!).
It’s a whole other ball game.
And there is no shortage of “solutions” out there for belly fat promoted to women in perimenopause. Like more solutions than menu items at the Cheesecake Factory.
That’s the reason why today I’m going to give you a run down on 3 things that I think are important for you to know about this stubborn belly fat:
First thing you need to know is that MOST women experience this increase in fat around your midsection.
Here that? Most.
In other words, it is NORMAL. It’s common. You are not alone. You have not failed.
Second thing you need to know is that this belly fat is stubborn for a reason.
This increase in belly fat that we experience in perimenopause is an important part of getting our body ready for menopause. As your ovaries decrease estrogen production in menopause, belly fat can help you produce estrogen that your ovaries are not producing in menopause.
In other words, it is stubborn and won’t go away because we need it.
Third thing you need to know is that you can do one of two things to address it:
1) You can spend your 40’s and 50’s endlessly fighting against your belly fat.
OR
2) You can embrace this body change as something that is a normal and important part of aging and you can take all that time and energy that you could have spent fighting against your body and put it into other areas that matter to you.
AND I will add that you can live boldly in the body that you have NOW instead of spending these next decades of your life living for a body that you WISH you had.
Despite popular, loud and persistent messaging, there are other ways you can feel more comfortable and even confident in your body without having to endlessly pursue a smaller you.
And if my many years of experience helping women improve their relationship with food and their body have taught me anything, it is that you will likely be healthier if weight loss is not your focus.
